Windrush Stories
We are well placed to be at the heart of telling the stories of the Windrush Generation, we most of our team are recognise this as their heritage.
We have encouraged nominations to be made for the Jamaican High Commission initiative to nominate key people across the UK and tell their stories, But in our homw area of the West Midlands we recognise there is much more that can be done.
In 2019 and 2020 we applied for funding from the English Government to work to develop resources and a support strategy for organisations celebrating Windrush Day, and also to develop training for organisations to understand the immense contribution made by the Windrush Generation and the challenges they have faced. However our applications were turned down.
Our next idea is to link up with Learning Links International and SenYAcum to explore the stories of those left behind in Jamaica when parents travelled to 'foreign'.
